The new 2019 Honda Insight launches the line’s third generation. This is a compact car with a hybrid engine that generates stunning fuel economy. The most notable update is the new body style, which is similar to the new Civic’s style. It also comes with updated features and equipment throughout. A closer examination of the 2019 Insight reveals that it is available in three trim levels. These are the LX, EX, and Touring. Comparing the LX and Touring trims gives you a better idea about the range of options and equipment available in this year’s Insight.
All trims for 2019 carry the same powertrain. This is a 1.5-liter, Atkinson cycle gas engine. It is mated with an electric motor that features a lithium-ion battery pack to generate hybrid performance. This is an AC synchronous permanent-magnet electric design with 129 horsepower. Total system horsepower as measured by the peak, concurrent output of the two electric motors and gasoline engine, is 151 horsepower. Its three available driving modes are Econ, Sport, and EV. Other performance-based features include an electric parking brake, auto brake hold, an eco assist system, active noise cancellation, hill start assist, an engine immobilizer, a continuously variable automatic transmission, a MacPherson front strut, a multi-link rear suspension, and other features. Notably, the Touring trim has a remote engine start feature that is not available with the base LX trim.
The 2019 Insight is a 4-door sedan with a slight elevation over the front wheels to create a sporty look. All trims have a roof-mounted fin-style antenna, auto on-off LED headlights, LED taillights and braking lights and body-colored side mirrors with heating and power elements. The Touring trim specifically has chrome accents around the side view mirrors as well as integrated LED turn signals. The body-colored door handles also have chrome accents in the Touring trim, and LED fog lights are standard at this level as well. The Touring trim is the only 2019 trim that comes with a power moonroof.
While all trims are well-appointed, several features are only standard in the Touring trim. Features included as standard equipment for all 2019 Honda Insight trims are an automatic climate control system, power door locks and windows, cruise control, LED interior ambient lighting, an electronic remote trunk release, illuminated steering wheel-mounted controls, Bluetooth® 4 technology, speed-sensitive volume compensation, and numerous other features. Equipment that is standard at the higher trim level includes rain-sensing wipers, Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock® functionality, a HomeLink® Remote System 5, a dual-zone function for the climate control system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather interior, heated and powered front seats, an 8-inch touch-screen display for sound system control, HondaLink® 6, Apple CarPlay™ 2, Android Auto™ 3, an upgraded sound system, SiriusXM® satellite radio, a satellite-linked navigation system, mobile hotspot capability and additional equipment.
While the 2019 Honda Insight LX and Touring trims have many similarities, you can see that the Touring adds a few additional features to the mix as standard equipment.
